Cortech
Cortech Sports, founded in 2022, is developing a non-invasive device to promote cognitive and brain recovery in athletes. Combining medtech and sportech, Cortech Sports uses transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) to accelerate post-concussion recovery, helping athletes return to the heat of battle faster and at the optimum time.
In top-level sport, brain recovery is essential to maintain peak performance and prevent long-term injury. Concussion and mental fatigue are common problems that can adversely affect an athlete's career. Traditional recovery methods, such as rest and medication, have limitations and potential side effects.
Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a therapeutic technique that uses light of different wavelengths to stimulate biological processes at the cellular level. Studies have shown that PBM can reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation and promote tissue regeneration, making it a promising solution for the recovery of brain tissue in athletes.
Issues
Top-level athletes often suffer prolonged recovery times after concussions. Damage can persist throughout their lives and even shorten their lives if not properly managed.
Solution
Cortech Sports has developed a device incorporating infrared LEDs to stimulate the brain with this specific light. This technology, which is easy to integrate into the daily treatment routine, speeds up healing and even promotes complete recovery.
Results
With Garage&co's support, Cortech Sports structured its business model, developed a working prototype and established key partnerships. Results include:
- Accelerated post-concussion recovery: Clinical trials are planned to demonstrate a reduction in recovery time after concussions, enabling athletes to return to their activities more quickly and safely.
- Strategic partnerships: Cortech Sports has successfully established collaborations with renowned research institutes and professional sports teams, reinforcing the credibility and effectiveness of their technology.
- Functional prototype and positive feedback: The helmet prototype has been completed and will be tested by various athletes and coaches to get their feedback on its effectiveness and comfort.
These results will demonstrate the significant impact of photobiomodulation on recovery from concussion, positioning Cortech Sports as a key player in the sports medtech field.
